Mickey Rourke Wrestles His Way Into Stallone’s Expendables

And Gandhi may be joining the fun too!

Variety reports this morning that Rourke has signed on for Sylvester Stallone’s upcoming film, The Expendables.  The movie has quickly rivaled Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds for best and most eclectic cast of the year with previous reports that Stallone will be joined by Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Jason Statham, and Forest Whitaker.  Ben Kingsley is also looking into a role on the film.  The recent rumors that Sandra Bullock and Wesley Snipes were being considered are apparently just that, rumors, but I still say either of them would just add to the guaranteed entertainment value.

The film is about a group of mercenaries who are hired to take down a nasty dictator in South America.  Rourke will play an arms dealer who sells weapons to the gang before turning on them in some fashion which forces Stallone to lift the wrestler into the air and toss him out of the ring.  I’m speculating a bit there based on Stallone’s filmography.  Per Moviehole, Kingsley would most likely play a character named Church, the man who initially hires the mercs to burn down the island and kill the dictator.

The Expendables starts shooting in March.

Seriously, is there anyone still not excited for this movie?  If so, what the hell’s wrong with you?
