Meet the Spartans Trailer

Posted by Neil Miller (neil@filmschoolrejects.com) on October 23, 2007

Alright people, when I first reported about the upcoming flick Meet the Spartans (originally called Hunting and Fishing), the parody of 300 being written and directed by Jason Friedberg (the brilliantish mind behind such classics as Epic Movie, Scary Movie and Spy Hard), I was only mildly annoyed. After seeing the trailer, I am now fully enraged. Is there no sense in Hollywood? Check that, the fact that Epic Movie grossed $78 million worldwide leads me to believe that the lack of sense lies somewhere outside of Southern California. All the folks in Hollywood do is continue to churn out simple-minded flicks so that the millions of “Blue Collar TV” fans can come out to their local cineplex. It makes me sick. And if you aren’t sick right along with me at this point, take a peek at the trailer below.

Meet the Spartans stars Kevin Sorbo, Carmen Electra and Diedrich Bader. It will be slivering its way into theaters sometime in 2008.

I'm sorry, but this looks like one of the funniest things that will be in theaters for a while. Why are you so upset? It's just a movie, get over yourself. Who are you to question what people want? My family loved "Spy Kids 3-D", I didn't. But did I go online, write a review, and complain about the movie, BEFORE it even got into theaters yet? No. It's not something to go suicidal over, so just chill.

    Mr. Miller:

I happen to be a fan of Blue Collar TV. I find it extremely amusing. What I don't find amusing, however, is that you seem to miss a very crucial point of movies, ALL movies: they are a form of escapism. People will sometimes go to movie theaters to escape their own dreary existance, if only for an hour and a half. As my fiancee often quotes: "I reject your reality and substitute my own."

Besides, it definitely has two things going for it: Kevin Sorbo's in it, and it mocks Britney.

  • Wow. Really, people? This movie looks hilarious? Gonna have to get Neil's back on this one. I can't believe they made another one of these movies. I have had to suffer through one of the franchise's other films starting about every 7 minutes on one of HBO's 15 channels lately and it is mind numbing. There is very, very little to absolutely nothing funny about Date Movie or Epic Movie and the fact that somehow another one is getting made is simply mind boggling. The first two Scary movies these guys did with the Wayans brothers were pretty good, but since then it has been straight down hill. There are so many great comedies out there, why do these keep getting made? Its literally one bad joke after another for 90 stupifying minutes. I pray this is the last one of these movies that I have to suffer through commercials for.
