Matthew Vaughn will make Thor

It seems that with the impending strike next year studios are pushing harder and harder to get movies made that have been sitting in limbo for the longest time. One studio in particular that is getting things rolling is Marvel Studios, the fledgling theatrical arm of the comic book powerhouse. Their next move will be to “Thor”. And it looks like they’ve got their director.
Matthew Vaughn, director of the recently released STARDUST will take on the task of “Thor”, making it his second attempted foray into the world of comic adaptations. He was attached to X-MEN 3 before bowing out on his own. Vaughn has also been a long time producer for Brit Guy Ritchie. You know, the SNATCH guy. He also married Madonna. Ritchie, not Vaughn.
Variety is reporting that Marvel Studios will be financing “Thor” with a $500 credit facility they obtained through Merrill Lynch. It is the same dough used to finance THE INCREDIBLE HULK starring Ed Norton and IRON MAN, which stars Robert Downey Jr. and opens on May 2.
My knowledge of the character Thor is a bit rusty, as in I have no idea what he is all about. Upon researching him right quick on Wikipedia, I found that he is another one of Stan Lee’s characters based on the Norse god of the same name. He was created by Lee as a character that was stronger than The Incredible Hulk. Sounds pretty cool to me. Do I smell a post-strike crossover Hulk and Thor flick? How about 2010 for a release date? Anybody? Anybody?
Matthew Vaughn’s THOR is said to be shooting for a fall 2008 release.
