Marvin the Martian is Coming to the Big Screen
In Development By Neil Miller on July 30, 2008 | (8) Comments
Puny humans beware, the little Spartan helmet wearing man from Mars is headed for the big screen. Warner Bros. released word this evening that they are currently developing a new film from the classic Looney Toons character, with Alcon Entertainment’s Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove on to produce along with Steve Crystal.
The project will blend live action and CGI and will be a sort of Christmas story, with Marvin coming to Earth to destroy Christmas but being prevented from doing so when he’s trapped in a gift box.
According to the report in Variety, the producers described the film as being targeted for families and will fall along the same lines as other Alcon productions Racing Stripes and My Dog Skip.
Personally, I am down with anything related to Marvin the Martian. His biggest cinematic appearance was a smaller role in the 1996 basketball comedy Space Jam. The only question that will be looming in the minds of fans is who will do the voice work for Marvin. Originally voiced by Mel Blanc (who passed away in 1989), Marvin has been voiced by a number of talented voice actors over that past 60 years since his debut in “Haredevil Hare” in 1948. My vote would be for “Simpsons” voice actor Dan Castellaneta.
Are you excited about a Marvin the Martian movie?
