Production Weekly is reporting this week that the upcoming production of Thor, the next in the long line of highly anticipated comic book adaptations from Marvel Studios, will begin shooting in Los Angeles in mid-January.

Directed by Kenneth Branagh, Thor will follow the adventures of a powerful but arrogant warrior named Thor, played by Chris Hemsworth (Star Trek), who is cast down to Earth and forced to live among humans as punishment for nearly igniting a war in his home world of Asgard. Once on Earth in the realm of man, Thor learns what it truly means to be a hero when he must defend our world from Loki, played by Tom Hiddleston, an evil warrior who intends to send the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth.

Shooting on this film — which also stars Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Jaimie Alexander, Colm Feore and Samuel L. Jackson — will continue for several weeks before moving to Santa Fe, New Mexico in March. We will be doing our darnedest to get onto that set — but in the meantime, we will keep an eye out for any additional information as the production gets closer to shooting.
