Lucas Says Only Ford Can Carry Indy, Star Wars Will Go 3-D

George Lucas, Harbinger of Geek DeathIt appears the rumors of Shia LaBeouf taking over as the lead in the Indiana Jones saga were exaggerated. Lucas explains why Harrison Ford is the man and also why you will be seeing Star Wars in 3-D.

Lucas confirmed in an interview with AP Television that Harrison Ford would have to be the lead for another Indy film to come out, and laughed at the idea of Indy’s adventures being passed over to Shia LaBeouf, who played Mutt Williams in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

“He is Indiana Jones,” Lucas explains about Ford. “If Indiana Jones wasn’t in it, you’d have to call it “Mutt Williams and the Search for Elvis… “Yeah, it’s Mutt Williams and the Search for Elvis.”

Lucas also said he plans on re-releasing all 6 Star Wars films into theaters with new 3-D technology.

“We worked on some, with a company that was developing the technology a few years ago to convert films into 3-D, we worked with them. But the system works great. It’s just not very practical. So what we’ve been working on since then is to develop a sort of practical way to do it. And we will get there. It’s just a technological challenge.”

I loved the re-release of the special edition Star Wars films in theaters, and I can only imagine what a 3-D version of the films on an IMAX screen would look like. As far as the prospects of Indy V, I am just happy Lucas knows who his meal ticket is.

Do you want to see the torch passed in the Indiana Jones saga? Are you excited about seeing a 3-D version of Star Wars in theaters?

This man is so fucking untalented.
  • File this one under "No one gives a shit anymore."

I wouldn't say he's untalented. I'd just say that he has made his bucks, and has delegated the pressure and work to people with different perceptions of what makes a good story or movie. The special effects crew is still on top of things though.
  • Johnny Boy
whatever. People simply bash him for the Star Wars prequels, The Star Wars Special
Editions, and now this Indy 4 film. But people fail to recognize or are simple ignorant
and don't know of George Lucas contributions to the film industry. Without ILM, which is
one of the best (if not the best) special effects companies in the industry. Skywalker
sound does tons of work on films. Pixar started of as a Lucas company before it was
sold to Steve Jobs. And digital editing also started out from Lucas's company.

He's not a good director, but to say the guy is "so fucking untalented" is completely
stupid. There are many lame things about the prequels, but there are an equal number
of of great things about them also. Too many people choose to focus on the negative
crap, or failed to be a kid again and simple enjoy the movie... trying to hold it up to
expectations and the nostalgia of the original Star Wars trilogy which is just a dumb thing
    to do.

But the saddest thing is that some people need something or someone to hate on in
order to make themselves feel important.... and they don't even realize it.
  • Johnny Boy
people also hate on M Night Shyamalan.

Seriously, if these people were so fucking untalented, why the hell would producers invest
millions of dollars to help make these movies if there wasn't some appeal for hem.

I agree with Johnny Boy. ILM and THX made a huge mark on the entertainment industry.
Maybe this new 3D venture will be a good thing.
  • Ford the best car :)
