Let the Right One In

On October 24, Let the Right One In will be opening at the Angelika film center in NYC and in a handful of locations across the US. I hope this excellent film will move to a wider release.

The trailer which has shown up online should do a good job in pulling in an audience for the film. It’s quick cut giving us a feel for the plight of the main characters and the mix of horror and pathos that makes the movie so effective.

Let the right One In is a vampire film with a coming of age story at its center. Based on the novel by John Ajivde Lindquivs the book and the film transcend the vampire genre. Director Tomas Alfredson has adapted the novel extremely well.

I saw the film at the Tribeca Film Festival in April and it deserved the Jury Prize it picked up for narrative feature. It was my favorite film at the festival. See also: Tribeca Review: Let the Right One In

Lina Leandersson plays the child vampire, Eli, who befriends Oskar, a friendless bullied young boy played by Kåre Hedebrant. The pair comes together out of loneliness and their relationship will take some unexpected turns. Both young actors are mesmerizing, fully realizing their characters.
