Kung Fu Panda

Hey kids, take note of this — $626 million dollars worldwide box office gross is going to guarantee that you get a sequel. Then again, you might have already known that. And whether they knew it or not, the folks behind this summer’s surprise animated hit Kung Fu Panda were setting themselves up for the long haul, as Dreamworks has now ordered up a sequel.

The film, which will reunite Jack Black as kung fu fan Po, Angelina Jolie and other members of the original voice cast, will be released in 3D — the new standard for all Dreamworks Animation movies starting next year — on regular and IMAX screens worldwide. And according to the note we received this morning from the folks at Dreamworks, the release date is set for June 3, 2011.

Personally, I am down for a Kung Fu Panda 2. This movie was one of the most delightful surprises of the year so far, and I can’t think of any reason why they shouldn’t make another one. When I reviewed it way back when, I believe I said something along the lines of ‘Pixar good,’ and I don’t think I was kidding.

How do you feel about a Kung Fu Panda sequel?
