Kristen Stewart to Rock Out as Joan Jett

In an attempt to avoid Daniel Radcliffe syndrome — whereas a young star gets stuck in the tween franchise that propelled them to stardom — Twilight star Kristen Stewart is reaching out and grabbing another potentially high profile role by signing on to play Joan Jett in The Runaways. As THR reports, Stewart will take the lead in the rock ‘n roll biopic of the 1970s all-girl band which was written and will be directed by Floria Sigismondi.
The film will revolve around Joan Jett and Cherie Currie and follow them from the band’s meteoric rise as teenagers to their dissolution and disillusionment. For those who aren’t familiar, The Runaways were hugely influential as the first successful all-girl hard rock band; its members included guitarists Jett and Lita Ford, drummer Sandy West, singer-keyboardist Cherie Currie and bassist Jackie Fox. Joan Jett was best known later for singles such as “I Love Rock ‘n Roll.”
As you can see from the images above, Stewart definitely has the look for Joan Jett. My only doubt would be in her range as an actress — she’s really played the same quiet, mousy character in just about every movie she’s done — everything from Twilight to The Yellow Handkerchief to Into the Wild, her acting has always been pretty one dimensional. But who knows, maybe this could serve as a real breakout performance for her.
What do you think about Kristen Stewart playing Joan Jett?
