King Crowns New ‘Mist’ Ending Shocking, Amazing

Frank Darabont

FirstShowing.net recently heard from horror master Stephen King that the new ending from Frank Darabont’s adaptation of The Mist is balls out awesome. No matter how I phrase it, I won’t be able to say it better than King himself, so here you go:

Frank wrote a new ending that I loved. It is the most shocking ending ever and there should be a law passed stating that anybody who reveals the last 5 minutes of this film should be hung from their neck until dead.

So there you, that’s some serious love. And I’m with him on the killing part. If anyone spoils the ending for me before I see this film I will slay you! The Mist stars Tom Jane and hits theaters Wednesday, the 21st, and looks to be a scary, thrilling, and well executed thriller. The film follows a group of survivors holed up in a general store as a mist rolls in, bringing with it all manners of pains, deaths, and monstrosities.

Darabont is probably best known for his directing of The Shawshank Redemption, a film that received wide critical praise. Or, if you prefer, as the genius behind the adaptation of The Green Mile. Darabont also served as the screenplay writer on The Mist and unless Mr. King is lying to us, he’s done an excellent job.

Stay tuned to FSR for Mist reviews as I know that at least one of us (this guy!) is catching this bad boy as soon as possible.

The ending ruined the film and it portrays cruelty to children in the worst way imaginable and demonstrates an awful pathetic pity towards the intellect of humanity in trying situations in a most implausible way. Don't waste your money seeing this awful film. I do not know what the original ending was but what I do know is this is the worst ending I have seen since they produced Arlington Road. I feel the producer should be ashamed of him self and I think Steven King knows alot better than this as I am a fan of his works.

well, dovetastic, that was the whole point of the movie, of how we humans are mere savages when we introduce a little fear. I thought it was a very artistic film and I very much enjoyed it. As for the ending, I thought it was deep. It was a very bold step and it left me shocked, but it's something different and that's what we need. That was a very difficult movie to create an ending for. Those movies are always hard to end but it was defiantly not a waste of money.

I saw the film today and the ending was very disturbing indeed. i have been a fan of horror and sci fi movies ever since I began going to movies as a kid and I am 57 now. I have enjoyed all the novels and short stories I ever read by King but I have always been let down by the screen play adaptations-except The Shining. For the most part, except for one or two, they all sucked. This one did a number on my mind. Hey- it was supposed to be a HORROR movie, right ?
We all got our money's worth and then some with this one, that's for sure.

I THINK THAT THE ENDING WAS GOOD, it shows what he was going through and
how much pain he was going through loosing all those people and they could of been saved.

The dad took the coward's way out. The should have kept pressing onward. The end was probably written as a a five minute afterthought.
    What utter rubbish.

They all lost hope the minute they thought the world had become a living Hell. They crossed human endurance and lost hope. He did what he did so they wouldn't suffer any longer. It's funny how people say it's kind to put down an animal when it's suffering, yet it's cruelty when he was trying to spare them anymore trauma. The ending did what it intended to do as a movie. It left a lasting impression. Good or bad, you won't forget it tonight.

I liked it, cuz the ending left a moral that humans are savages even of little fear. I also noticed that the alien monsters from the other dimension were not the main subject of the movie. the ending was deep wen he killed his son and everyone. i think the end shows that humanity suffered a big disaster, but did not come to extinction. like an F in math, then u get an A next semester.

I was disappointed with the ending, I felt it left a lot unanswered (what happened to the remaining people in the grocery store?). Initially I thought the ending was going to take a more biblical approach - I was sure that divine intervention would occur before the father killed his son (like God was testing Abraham to see if he would actually kill his own son, as a test of his loyalty) or the religious zealot forcing the few to run to safety and, in a round about way, getting what she had prayed for "to save the good souls".
I guess it was a representation of how easily humans give up when faced with a daunting problem.

jamie dude, it showed what happened to the peeple that were at the grocery store?
