Kevin Smith is Directing a Comic Book Movie – But it’s not SuperMax

Last night I decided to watch AN EVENING WITH KEVIN SMITH 2: EVENING HARDER on DVD while I worked. That was a terrible idea. Don’t get me wrong, I love me some Kevin Smith, but it caused me to stop what I was doing and accept Kevin as the savior of my otherwise lackluster evening. Thus, I got zero work accomplished.
So today I have awakened to some stellar Kevin Smith news, courtesy of my good friend Peter at /FIlm. Yesterday Peter reported that after he helps ZACK AND MIRI make their porno and after he slashes up RED STATE, he will be looking to take on a comic book movie. I mean, who isn’t trying to make a comic book flick these days. Nolan got his. Raimi got two good ones and ruined a third. And Jon Favreau is going to rock his. Hell, even Edgar Wright has been tasked to do ANT MAN. Why can’t the chubby Clerk get a slice of the action? Personally, I’m all for it. I’ve found that Smith is getting better with every flick. And yes, I am referring to JERSEY GIRL.
I digress. Peter reported that Smith was in negotiations to make a comic book flick, then theorized that it would be SuperMax, a David S. Goyer (BATMAN BEGINS) off-shoot of the Green Arrow. Smith had long ago been involved in a Green Arrow project, but nothing was ever confirmed. It turns out that nothing is to be confirmed this time either, as Smith made comments over at Cinematical about Peter’s post:
From Cinematical:
I dig Peter at slashfilm, but that conjecture was a real stretch.
I.E. – No, I’m not directing “SuperMax”. You may all breathe a sigh of relief now.
In defense of my good friend Pete, he was just speculating. And I would think that a guy like Kevin Smith understands that. He’s good people ’round these parts.
As far as his 10th film, the potential of it being a comic book adaptation and any other future projects, that is all up for speculation. One thing is for sure — no matter what it is, it will be better than DAREDEVIL — even if it does star Ben Affleck.
