Keanu Reeves to Make ‘Earth’ Stand Still

He’s been to all the far reaches of our imagination, dodging bullets in Bullet-Time and even sending demons back to Hell. So it is safe to say that Keanu Reeves, despite his participation in every third Sandra Bullock movie to come to market, has got some acting prowess. I mean, this is Neo we are talking about, the guy can definitely pull off a good role in a Sci-Fi flick. Coincidentally, there is news today that Reeves will once again be throwing his hat into a major sci-fi project.
Variety is reporting that Reeves committed over the weekend to play Klaatu, a humanoid alien who comes to Earth to warn humans of an impending attack in the upcoming re-imagining of Robert Wise’s classic 1951 adventure, The Day the Earth Stood Still. Scott Derrickson (The Exorcism of Emily Rose) is helming the project, which will be distributed by Twentieth Century Fox.
The 1951 film’s premise was based on the rise of the Cold War after WWII. No details have been released about the actual plot “re-imaginings” that may take place, but rest assured that there will be some serious special effect overhaul. Personally I have never seen the Wise classic, but it’s got me interested.
As far as Keaunu “Dracula” goes, we will soon see him in the David Ayer-directed The Night Watchman, which also stars James Ellroy, Forest Whitaker, Chris Evans and Hugh Laurie. Wait… What? Hugh Laurie does movies (aside from Stuart Little), too?
On the Side: Was originally cast as Chris Shiherlis in Heat but later backed out of the project, and the part went to Val Kilmer. That could have gone so terribly wrong for everyone involved.
