I know, it was just as awkward writing that title as it is reading it. But that rumor is just the latest in a long line of Wonder Woman casting follies. Star Pulse reported yesterday that Holmes took leave from her husband and child in Berlin, where hubby Tom Cruise is filming Brian Singer’s Valkyrie, to fly back to Los Angeles and meet with her Agents and a few producers. Allegedly Katie didn’t want Tom to be a part of her quest to become the next Wonder Woman. She wanted to do it on her own.
From Star Pulse:
“The movie’s only at the discussion state, but Katie feels this role as a kick-ass superhero will put her back in the public eye,†the source says. “She wants to show her stuff, and she wants to prove that she can stand on her own two feet without Tom’s help. Tom, at times, feels compelled to oversee Katie’s career, but Katie is bent on doing this alone. She actually scheduled the meeting when she knew Tom wasn’t going to be able to be there.â€
The real question becomes: even if this does go through without Tom’s help, will he let Katie out of her imprisonment long enough to make a flick before L. Ron Hubbard demands another heir? Also, let’s not forget the fact that Katie isn’t that prolific an actress, having been tossed out of the only comic franchise that she’d ever been a part of, Chris Nolan’s Batman series. She has also never taken on a roll so large. Could she be trying to live up to the looming shadow of her crazy husband? Who knows, either way this does not bode well for fans of Wonder Woman. I can just see it now, Battlefield Earth 2: The Rise of Wonder Woman. Ugh, Scientology and Comic Books — it goes together like rum and goat’s milk.
On the Side: Katie Holmes did used to star on “Dawson’s Creek”, back when she was free. Just in case you’ve forgotten.
