I still don't understand the logic behind people who claim it "ruins my childhood movie." No matter how atrocious, or even how good, the remake is, it doesn't change the movie I watch when I pop in my original Karate Kid DVD. Nor does it magically travel through time and alter the good times I had with it as a kid, hence changing my memories of it. Ultimately it has no bearing on the original or my enjoyment of it whatsoever.

This is yet another classic that does not need a remake. Don't mess with with the classics, and don't insult Pat Morita's memory.

That said, on the language barrier, the movie that's handled this best (IMO) was Red October. The Russian was subtitled for a while, then the camera panned up to focus on one character's mouth as he switched to English, implying that yes, they're still speaking Russian but now we can understand them. Then when Russians and Americans were in the same room, it was subtitled Russian again. But in a situation like this, it would be most realistic to have subtitled Chinese - that is, if the audience is supposed to understand what they're saying even if the hero can't. But if the hero can't understand them, then why would we? ...stopping before I get a headache

Sounds like there are going to be a lot of complaints about this one, including right now. This will be terrible, I will not see it. They can never take away the classic.
