Remember that fat kid in high school who was “best friends” with the hottest girl in school? Well odds are you do remember him, or you were that guy…probably minus the hot chick. Well imagine if 10 years have passed and he is perfectly fit, rich, and dating models.

The year is 1995 and Chris Brander and Jamie Palamino are best friends. Chris loves Jamie, but Jamie does not acknowledge it because he weighs 350 lbs. When Chris is publicly humiliated by classmates and rejected by Jamie he swears to return to New Jersey a different man.

The year is now 2005 and Chris Brander is a much leaner, wealthy, suave record company executive. When some unexpected events land Chris back in his hometown, he can’t help but feel that he has something to prove. He finds old friends and an old love, and an opportunity for redemption.

The movie stars Ryan Reynolds, Amy Smart, Anna Faris, and Chris Klein. The first thing that I have to say is that the chemistry between Reynolds and Faris produces some hilarious moments. The movie is funny in that heart-warming kind of way. Ryan Reynolds is quickly establishing himself as a Hollywood funny man that can produce low budget laughs, and Amy Smart is quickly establishing herself as that girl who used to be hot back in Road Trip.

The plot is wavers from mediocre to solid date type movie with some great laughs. Seeing Chris Klein in the role that he plays in this film is actually pretty hilarious. Remember Chris Klein as the ultra-sensitive singing clown from American Pie…well he plays an ultra-suave singing clown in Just Friends. The gag reels and deleted scenes in the special features are definitely worth taking a look at.

One bad clich© drawn out for 96 minutes.
On the Side:
It took 4 hours just to make the 12 pound face on Ryan Reynolds.
