J.J. Abrams’ sci-fi groupies are encouraging him to go warp speed in finishing Star Trek. They’re getting their wish.

Wouldn’t it make sense that J.J. Abrams would have a Facebook account for Star Trek? The man is one of the most masterful when it comes to advertising his shows and films, so he naturally is going to be touching base with every social network in existence. Abrams let the fans of the highly anticipated film know that they’re nearly completed with the project. But let me play the role of Levar Burton when I say, “you don’t have to take my word for it!” Here’s what J.J. had to say:

Dear All Those Who Checked Out the Trek Trailer on Facebook:

THANK YOU!

We’re just making final tweaks to the movie — we should be totally locked next week. Then we’re going to flash-freeze it so it’s totally fresh for you in May. I can’t wait for you to see the movie. The cast is awesome. The action and effects pushed the stunt team and ILM beyond their limits. I’m so grateful to this cast and crew — and to all of you for your interest and patience. We’ll continue to update this page with new info and exclusives, so check back when you think of it. In the meantime, have a happy, healthy, fun holiday!

From the last days of the sound mix,

JJ

So the film will be done with plenty of time to spare, which is surely a relief to fans and anyone attached to the film. The worst thing a film heavy in effects could have happen is for the director to be tweaking things all the way to the release date. I’m not a Star Trek fan but I am definitely starting to grow an interest in J.J. Abrams’ interpretation of the story. I am almost nearly as excited to see Winona Ryder in a film that matters again.

What is the one thing you’re looking forward to most in Star Trek? Can J.J. Abrams right the Starship Enterprise?
