Wow, a tough call because Star Trek sequel and M:I-4 are rumored for a 2011 release but depending on the schedule. If they put M:I-4 for May release and put Star Trek for Christmas release then it might would work. In a way, J.J. Abrams might could direct both back to back. Steven Speilberg and Ridley Scott has done 2 films in a year then J.J. Abrams can do that but we'll see.

But if J.J. Abrams can't do both then maybe he should pick one to direct whatever fits him the best and have him pick one of his directors in his team (anyone that he worked with from Felicity, Lost or Alias) to direct the another. Personally, I would prefer Jack Bender to direct one once he gets done with Lost next spring after he wraps up the series finale.

I liked M:I-3 and Star Trek but M:I-3 had the most intense action and thrilling moments that the 2nd failed for. And with Star Trek, it was a well paced film than the previous ones, that's why this is a tough call.

I think J.J. Abrams should do Star Trek 2 and Jack Bender to do Mission Impossible 4. Bender deserves another shot at directing a motion picture. He hasn't directed one since 1991 which was Child's Play 3. It was a stinker but very entertaining. The real reason it was a stinker because of the story and writing but the directing was pretty decent despite to badly written screenplay.
So if Bender has another shot then with Mission Impossible 4, he can prove his real piece of work. He directed 11 episodes in Alias especially the 2003 super bowl episode titled "Phase One" and 30+ episodes on Lost, I think he is the man for the job.

I didn't enjoy Star Trek as much as I enjoyed his M:I 3. Star Trek was too slick and sterile, and I feel the M:I universe is more suitable for JJ Abrams' directing style.

JJ should just produce this time and give one of his talented Bad Robot minions a chance to direct. I definitely think there's still some good MI - Ethan Hunt stories to be told.

Ooh, tough call. Abram's M:I was awesome (not as good as the first but ten times better than that second piece of shit), but I recall Tom Cruise saying they wanted a different director for each one and I liked the idea. There's something about having the direction of each movie being dramatically different that I just think is awesome. Bryan Singer would be my dream director on this one... Imagine a combination of the first M:I, The Usual Suspects, and Valkerie. I think I just came.

Abrams should do neither and instead move on to something new.

Also, the first MI sucked donkey scrotum. Terrible twists, laughable masks, ludicrous helicopter tunnel scene.

Based on evidence from the first three, the mission probably isn't actually impossible.

Yup that's how we report the news, more where that came from for today's culture news:

Abrams should produce but pick an up and coming director to do MI:4 and then have the studio say they want him to do it .. wait a second I think I've heard this being done already.
