Jason Bourne Not Backing Down to Bond’s 19 Film Lead

Jason Bourne: Chasing Down James Bond

Among cinematic super-spies, Jason Bourne is currently the ‘in’ guy, despite the fact that sneaky Brit agent James Bond continues to truck right along, releasing his 22nd installment next month. But Bourne isn’t backing down, as news is coming in today that Universal is pressing on with the already announced fourth film in the franchise. According to Variety, the film will be written by Bourne Ultimatum co-writer George Nolfi, and will not be based on a story from Bourne creator Robert Ludlum. This fourth installment will be an original story.

The other important news is that according to Variety, Universal has secured the participation of director Paul Greengrass and star Matt Damon. This means two things: that Jason Bourne will be in the fourth film, and that the film will also including nauseatingly shaky camera work. That said, who isn’t excited about another Bourne movie — if anyone has had doubts about the staying power of this series, those should be long extinguished after three impressive outings. Then again, that is one man’s opinion — it is time for you to weigh in below.

What do you think about the prospect of a fourth Bourne movie?

So he's gonna remember more stuff for the fourth time? O rm maybe he has another 19 really really important things he's going to remeber and each one is going to have a film made about it. I liked the Bourne films, although I didn't like the whole "Oh I've just remebered something" plotline. I hope the next films don't involve him suddenly remebering something and then being chased by shadowy government agents.

I didn't mind the shakey camera work and didn't get motionsick watching it, though, I can see how some people would. In fact, for me, it drew me in a bit more to the chaotic nature of a lot of the moments (in the third film). It was mostly just frustrating during the fight scene in algeria or wherever they were.

But yes, I'm excited for a fourth installment. Obviously, the problem here is hoping that the writing is comparable to the first three at the very least. Hopefully there's another really sweet car chase on the windy roads of some european city.

Is it going to be all about Matt Damon killing a conservative white woman, all the time repeating you are really scary, like a bad Disney movie.

I def liked the Bourne trilogy. Now they want to make their own script for Bourne but that sounds like a bad idea. Even Eric VonLustbader couldnt continue the Bourne story with the intel details that Ludlum had, although I did like the Bourne Legacy. That would be a pretty good one to make it to film. Seeing as how it shows Bourne in his stealth and wquick thinking throughout. Plus its got a really cool motorcycle chase.

(ps, i love the bourne trilogy)

I can truthfully say I will not go and see any more Bourne films after the snore fest that was the second movie.

Sorry but the new Bond movie will be ten times better IMO than any convaluted anti establishment movie that Matt Damon puts out.

I keep waiting for someone to say to Damons character, if the agency you came from is so evil, what does that make you since you were a part of it for years before you lost your memory.

@Aleric - amnesia is the equivalent of Jesus dying for our sins - no matter how bad you were, if you forget about it, its OK. It scientific fact and probably in the bible somewhere.

    Lol Nish, good one.

So even though the person is flawed and willing to do evil deeds or acts, if you get amnesia it is like pushing the reboot button on a PC?? I did like the Jesus reference though.

Am I the only one who remembers him dealing with these issues in the second one? Like... you know, the whole ending of the movie?

I liked the bourne series, and I think a fourth movie would be kinda cool. However I'm not to sure about the whole original script thing. And I'm also interested to see what the hell the movie would be about. Seeing as how according to bourne himself, he remembered everything.
