Japanese Watchmen Trailer Sets the Doomsday Clock

Jackie Earl Haley in Watchmen

For those of you wondering about the ending to Zack Snyder’s Watchmen, check out the potentially spoilerific (?) scenes in the newly released (or leaked?) Japanese trailer below. As you will see, there is a lot more of third term President Richard Nixon in this trailer, as well as several references to the doomsday clock and a shot of New York’s Times Square getting the business end of a blast. It’s no giant squid, but it sure does look pretty. Then again, it’s been a while since I’ve read “Watchmen” — could that be an earlier scene? I suppose its about time to dust off my copy and have another look. While I do that, you check out the trailer below.

Watchmen is currently scheduled for release on March 6, 2009. As you will notice in the trailer, it is due out March 28 in Japan.

Did The Comedian assassinate JFK in the comic?
  • Yes.
  • Hey! Don't spoil the movie!!
  • Parts of this movie look incredibly cool... then there are all those scenes with Nixon and Castro. Those are terribly cheesy looking aren't they? Is that intentional? I haven't read the comic, and while I'm not wetting myself over the movie I have been mildly intrigued. But this trailer actually lessens my interest. I'll still see it of course...
  • You better see it.
  • I wanna get a T-Shirt with a Watchmen Logo in Japanese Katakana Writing in it. Looks awesome. Maybe some Clothing store will endorse for them I remember French Connection had the Transformers the movie T-Shirts of course they were $45.00 a pop. Anyways, the trailer is not much different from the american version but it's time to dust off the old graphic novel for a look again.

I really didn't like the American trailer for Watchmen. It was too showy, too special effectish, too music-video, and every single scene looked like it was in slow-motion and color-controlled. Which needless to say didn't remind me of the comic at all.

The Japanese trailer looks more toned down and human, quieter scenes etc.... I wasn't going to go see the movie at all (judging by the truly awful track-record hollywood has for adapting moore's novels), but this trailer changed my mind.

if youve seen 300 then you know were all that slow mo stuff comes from.

I know, when I heard that guy who made 300 was doing watchmen, i started to cry blood. In slow motion.

Im getting really pissed off with the trailers for Watchmen...for one big reason. The movie is being sold as some sort of action movie, explosions et al. I know Hollywood want more people (other than Watchmen fans) to go see this movie, but a lot of em are gonna go in with different expectations. I sure hope this movie delivers, so far all indications showing it will.
P.S anyone out there who hasnt read the Watchmen comic, please pick up a copy so at least you know what you're in for.
