iTunes Offering Movie Rentals?

post-itunesmovies.jpgOur buddies over at /Film have learned that Apple is on their way to offering a 30 day rental system to their iTunes Movie Store. For the low low price of just $2.99 you could rent movies for an entire month. Can’t argue with that price, can you? Compared to your standard rental fee at an actual rental store, you’re saving a bit of change. This news is generating some excitement. The movies would also be portable to your iPod. Sweet.

Count me out, though. I hate watching movies on a computer screen. And on an iPod screen, forget it. Movies are meant to be big. I love DVDs. I love seeing them on a large TV screen. I love lossless quality. Plus, Apple, you’re still a step behind Netflix. Netflix, while yes it takes some time to mail it, offers unlimited rental periods, low prices, the ability to watch on demand on the internet and a monthly subscription plan that keeps your mailbox full. So Apple, maybe you should borrow a few more pages from that playbook and rework you offer? But then again, I’m just one lone DVD voice in a sea of techno-lovers and you are one of the hippest markets on Earth right now.
