This is a vague assumption, but one that could very well turn out to be right in the end — you watch. Director Jon Favreau has been all over Twitter (@Jon_Favreau) talking about Iron Man 2 and taking questions from fans. And like any good director/marketeer, he’s been vague about all the right kinds of things, keeping fans interested by dropping little hints and tidbits along the way. And today he delivered a hint of sorts by retweeting a question about an Iron Man 2 trailer. See below:

RT @Ann_Howard: @Jon_Favreau PLEASE tell us the trailer is coming soon – w/Sherlock Holmes, perhaps??

I’m not saying this is blatant or in any way direct, but lets think about why Mr. Favreau would retweet such a statement. Perhaps the Iron Man 2 trailer will be in front of Sherlock Holmes when it hits theaters on December 25th. It sure does make sense. Robert Downey Jr. stars in both films and Holmes is one of the last big action movies (save for Avatar) of the year. So it would make sense that Favreau and Paramount would be putting a trailer in front of a Warner Bros. movie. As well, Holmes will likely do well at the box office on opening weekend — with a lot of eyes seeing the trailers in front of it. My best guess is that an Iron Man 2 trailer is due soon — and its likely that if it isn’t in front of Holmes, it will certainly be in front of a December movie such as Avatar or fellow Paramount release The Lovely Bones.

At time of print, a representative from Paramount could not be reached for comment. We will let you know if we can get any additional information as the story develops. Iron Man 2 is in theaters May 7, 2010. Thanks to reader @jamesbuckingham for the heads up.
