Iron Man 2 to Feature More Nick “BAMF” Fury

Posted by Mister Hand (misterhand@filmschoolrejects.com) on October 22, 2008

Whenever there’s Sam Jackson news to be reported, I’m always excited to write it up. And it’s not just because he’s one of my favorite actors ever. It’s because any article featuring the original
“Bad Mother F—r” pretty much writes itself.

But there’s no need for me to dip into my extensive list of Sam-isms (culled mostly from Pulp Fiction and Jackie Brown) to make this news exciting. And the news, of course, is that the Nick Fury character, portrayed by Jackson in a post-credits cameo in Iron Man, will have a greatly expanded role in Iron Man 2. We got the story from IESB, which you can read here.

Jackson also said he was looking forward to working with Don Cheadle, who will be taking over the role of Jim Rhodes from Terence Howard.

Holy F*&%! So the Don Cheadle thing was true!?!
  • Meepo
Goddammit. They really are going through with the Cheadle crap?

    I feel like barfing.
  • Sam Jackson and Robert Downey Jr.

Man drink that in. It would definitely make my list of most interesting team ups.
Almost makes me not give a flying shit about Terrence whats his face haha

I suppose the Nick Fury thing was inevitable, maybe he'll get a standalone movie someday.
  • Yes, D Train, it looks like the Don Cheadle thing was true. I'm still trying to get my head around how that's going to work, myself.

I guess Terrence Howard doesn't have the star power to drive their movie... The problem is that they're RIGHT. Don Cheadle WILL attract more people to see the movie.
  • I have to disagree. Yes Don Cheadle has star power but this is not the vehicle for him. The last couple of flicks Don did were duds. Not since Crash did he have a major box office success. Not pitting brother against brother but this move will have a serious disconnect. It is completely different from the Katie Holmes bowing out to her husbands pressure. Or the Oracle dying in between TheMatrix 2-3 films. If they did not want Terrance in the first place they should have waited until Don became available. Traitor was a major disappointment this summer and the Ocean's crap is not worth mentioning. Howard's fans feel cheated first and formost. And no one has the balls to stand up for what is right.

A director stood up for Forest Whitaker role in Winged Creatures. The film was being financed by an Australian company who said "He's Black, He's Ugly and He Can't Act". While they tapped danced around several racial slurs both used for Aborigines and Blacks, this man stood up for Forest. The company did not care that he'd won an Oscar. He saw the project trade companies and the script budget devalued. But he made his point and his movie. And Forest is getting sleeper Oscar Buzz for the role. All I'm saying is have some backbone.

I am very very disappointed in Marvel Studios in this situation silence is not golden. And how fickle the movie audience is. Unlike Tobey Maguire who should be replaced in Spiderman because he can't act past a paperbag impression (much like Keanu Reeves whom I adore). This is RDJ's baby and everyone should support to make it the success is has and could be. This movie should not be stuffed with a bunch of A-Lister's, this is not a Sundance/Independent Production. This was a chance for Terrence to make his mark. Now every studio will question his worth as an actor.

It is hard enough for people of color in this business. But this smells to HIGH HEAVEN, and it ain't pretty! I think before you comment further on Terrence listen to his NPR interview @ www.npr.org dated 10/18/2008.

The fact that it's Iron Man 2 will attract people to this movie. They pulled it off with the first one and they have a guaranteed huge audience for the sequel.

I liked Howard and I think he captured the spirit of Rhodes perfectly. It doesn't change the fact that his character was supporting, but I was looking forward to seeing more Howard in the sequel. I could give two sh1ts about the Holmes/Gyllenhal thing in Batman cuz they were not memorable at all, (Morgan Freeman was), but Terrance Howard was fun. He's the perfect foil to RBJ.
