It seems like a foregone conclusion, but now we have official word. Marvel Studios and Paramount Pictures will distribute Jon Favreau’s Iron Man 2 in IMAX theaters simultaneously with the film’s release on May 7, 2010. The film’s limited IMAX release will be digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience(R) with IMAX DMR(R) technology.

“The success of the first Iron Man movie catapulted the franchise from the comic books to theatre screens, and we’re excited that the IMAX format will offer fans an even more immersive way to experience the sequel,” said Tim Connors, Chief Operating Officer, Marvel Studios in a press release.

As I said, a foregone conclusion. Of course Iron Man 2 will be re-mastered for IMAX. While it wasn’t shot in IMAX, a la Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight, it will probably look rather cool on the bigger big screen. There is, I’m told, a lot of action in this second film. And according to a Most Anticipated Movies list recently published by a fairly reputable movie blog, it would appear as if folks are looking forward to it.
