Over the weekend The Weinstein Company released a brand new poster for Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds via our cross-town rivals Ain’t It Cool News. As you can see below, this poster features Lt. Aldo Raine, played by Brad Pitt. The film follows a group of Jewish-American soldiers — led by Raine — as they use shadow tactics to brutally murder Nazis during World War II. Like many a Tarantino film, this one has depth in casting, edge in trailering and is sure to have equal measures of weird and brutal. As someone who has always been lukewarm to Tarantino’s work — loved me some Resevoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction, didn’t quite love Death Proof — I will admit to be mostly excited here. Tarantino’s work has a unique swagger to it that I dig, and the thought of a WWII movie that isn’t quite the “epic” we’ve seen in the past could be a fun change of pace. That, and I’m a sucker for watching Nazi’s get shot with chain-guns. Also — dig on that scar that Pitt’s character is sporting. Can’t wait to see that back story.
Check out the new poster below and click it to see the bigger version, courtesy of AICN. Inglourious Basterds hits theaters on August 21, 2009 and is part of our 17 Must See Movies of Summer ’09 (which, might I add, is a glowing endorsement).
