Over the weekend The Weinstein Company released a brand new poster for Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds via our cross-town rivals Ain’t It Cool News. As you can see below, this poster features Lt. Aldo Raine, played by Brad Pitt. The film follows a group of Jewish-American soldiers — led by Raine — as they use shadow tactics to brutally murder Nazis during World War II. Like many a Tarantino film, this one has depth in casting, edge in trailering and is sure to have equal measures of weird and brutal. As someone who has always been lukewarm to Tarantino’s work — loved me some Resevoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction, didn’t quite love Death Proof — I will admit to be mostly excited here. Tarantino’s work has a unique swagger to it that I dig, and the thought of a WWII movie that isn’t quite the “epic” we’ve seen in the past could be a fun change of pace. That, and I’m a sucker for watching Nazi’s get shot with chain-guns. Also — dig on that scar that Pitt’s character is sporting. Can’t wait to see that back story.

Check out the new poster below and click it to see the bigger version, courtesy of AICN. Inglourious Basterds hits theaters on August 21, 2009 and is part of our 17 Must See Movies of Summer ‘09 (which, might I add, is a glowing endorsement).

  • Can't wait to see this...but this face Pitt is making in everything so far I've seen is really distracting. No one is believing that he has a massive underbite.

    Anyone else noticing this?

Movie looks sick, Pitt has yet another money maker, BASTARD! lol
  • Wasn't there an old Western were Clint Eastwood had a scar from an attempted hanging?
  • Hang 'em High.
  • So, is Quentin going to re-use the same plot setup vehicle and claim it as his own?
  • In Hang 'em High Clint was unjustly hanged. But "When you hang someone, make sure to hang 'em high!" and they didn't, so he survived and became a Marshall to track down and kill all those responsible.

I think Pitt just has a scar from some Nazi bastards, who he will probably want to kill, but I doubt QT was thinking of HeH when he wrote that. I'm sure there are some semi-obscure Japanese films instead.

hey guys poster is mehhh i suggest everyone read the script (fucking insane) as for the scar around his neck QT stated awhile ago that Raine would be bearing a scar from an attempting hanging but would not delve into it in the film at least that was the original idea, but because of the interest in various promo shots i imagine a brief flashback will remedy that

he's right, QT wrote: "Lt. Aldo has one defining physical characteristic, a ROPE BURN around his neck. As if once upon a time, he survived a LYNCHING. The scar will never once be mentioned." page 21
