Indy Might Need To Get His Whip Out For One More

George Lucas was able to take a moment away from scatting with Jack Black in Cannes, to talk about Indiana Jones. While Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is still set to release next week and is expected to be the biggest box-office draw of the summer, Lucas seems to have more of a focus on Indy’s future than his present.
Director Steven Spielberg has not said anything regarding a future fifth film, but Lucas is psyched about the possibility. Even with the possibility that Harrison Ford could be pushing nearly 70 at the time of a fifth Indiana Jones, Lucas isn’t worried. “And it’s not like Harrison is even old. I mean, he’s 65 and he did everything in this movie. The old chemistry is there, and it’s not like he’s an old man. He’s incredibly agile; he looks even better than he did 20 years ago, if you ask me.” If you ask me, it sounds like it could end up being a big bomb for the series. But hey, it worked for Rocky…and Rocky didn’t have George Lucas or Steven Spielberg in his corner.
Lucas says he and director Steven Spielberg have left the ending of the fourth film in the series open for a sequel. This might not seem like a bad idea but if Lucas had the reigns of a fifth Indiana Jones, this is what he would do: “I have an idea to make Shia [LeBeouf] the lead character next time and have Harrison [Ford] come back like Sean Connery did in the last movie. I can see it working out.” I just don’t know if I could watch an Indiana Jones without Harrison Ford’s Indy being the centerpiece. Maybe we could call this one “Indiana Jones and the curse of the No, No, No, No…”.
