One of my favorite films from this past year’s Sundance Film Festival, the Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor led comedy I Love You Phillip Morris, has finally found distribution this week, according to Variety.

The film follows the story of a runaway Texas cop-turned-conman (Carrey) who falls in love with his prison cellmate (McGregor), and proceeds to escape from prison several times after his lover has been released. It has struggled to find distribution as many studios were weary of the film’s somewhat graphic depiction of homosexual sex (which isn’t really that graphic at all). In my own review from Sundance, I said that the story is “one that is truly stranger than fiction, and it has been translated into a warped and hilarious film, one with an abundance of liveliness and style.”

The film, which is based on a book written by Houston Chronicle crime reporter Steve McVicker, has been acquired by Consolidated Pictures Group for U.S. Distribution. They intend to give the film a Valentine’s Day (2010) release.
