Hilary May Have Jack’s Bleeding Liberal Heart, But Obama Gets The Hulk

Barack ObamaIf you, like many, have been following what’s going on in the Democratic Primaries, then you know how tight the race is for the party’s nomination between Sens. Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. Actor Edward Norton and his Class 5 Films are planning to make an Obama documentary that will be released sometime after general elections are held in early November.

According to ComingSoon.net, directors Amy Rice and Alicia Sams have been following Obama since before he decided to run for President. They are still currently filming footage for the film as Obama travels across the country trying to win his bid as the presumptive Democratic nominee.

Norton has gotten producer Ari Emanuel on board to help distribute the film. Emanuel helped distribute Michael Moore’s heavily-liberal docs Sicko and Fahrenheit 9/11 as well as fictional fare like Borat.

This should be interesting to see. What I like about it is that they’re waiting until after the election and releasing the film in 2009. It gives the untitled Obama documentary more leeway to be an objective feature and won’t play into the propaganda surrounding election time. This way we can go into the general election campaigns without the weight of an Inconvenience Truth or Michael Moore picture dragging either party down. So whether this is a pro or anti-Obama documentary (I’m guessing it’s pro-Obama because Emanuel is a staunch Barack supporter) we won’t have the candidates talking about this, but instead about the issues that face the American people.

Again, the Untitled Barack Obama Documentary (which I’ll tentatively name Yes We Can) is due out in theaters 2009.

Political side-note 1: When I first got this assignment from FSR editor Neil Miller the link was damaged and I couldn’t get to ComingSoon.net. So I typed “Ed Norton working on Obama doc” into google search and it brought me to this page over at libertyfilmfestival.com: A Forum for Conservative Thought on Film where the writer refers to Obama as practicing “Messiah schtick.” What is most striking about this article is the talkback at the bottom. The quote from user prisoner105 about Obama being a “Black Man who was once a Muslim” made me laugh. I know we don’t ever have to challenge talkbackers to back up their claims, but that’s ridiculous. Obama was never raised Muslim.

Political side-note 2: When Neil’s link finally worked I went over to ComingSoon.net (which has a large banner ad reading “Help Elect Barack Obama”) and my faith in politics and geekdom was restored upon reading a talkbacker claim he was voting for the “Wolvie/Ironman” ticket. I will admit it is hard to imagine the clawed Wolverine running for office. I think he’d be a much better Secretary of Defense, only slightly less violent than Donald Rumsfeld.

Talking Point: Does a documentary about Barack Obama interest you?

  • Does this documentary interest me? Absolutely Not.

Although I would expect them to portray it accurately and not gloss over any of the controversies surrounding Obama. But then again, most of the media glosses over that, so I won't get my hopes up.
  • Yes, it would isnterest me, as long as it doesn't include any part of that f*****g video with the racist pastor. I'm so sick of seeing that, I can't watch the news at all now on the off chance they'll run it yet again for the ten millionth time.

Sen. O is most cool and I hope he wins the nomination.
  • I'm not surprised that Fure isn't interested since he's against Hope and Freedom. Word on the street is that he's also anti-puppy and only mildly pro-rainbow.
  • Jason
I would be interested if and only if at some part during the documentary Obama hulks out and goes on a tirade through D.C.
  • I'm very pro-puppy. In fact, my long held support for all furred mammals is quite well documented. However, due to rainbow's recent anti-homosexual comments made in a recorded interview, I've withdrawn my support.

And if this documentary doesn't address the fact that Senator Obama spent 20 years as a member of the Congregation, and had his children baptised by, and was married by, and paid the Pastor to be an advisor, all while calling him a mentor, if none of that is addressed, well then it wouldn't be based on fact. We are judged by the company we keep. Shouldn't keep company with racists and people who spit anti-American dialog as their bread and butter.

I hung out with Cole Abaius just one time, and let him baptise just one of my children, and I have still been ostracized from ALL Outback Steakhouses. And that's a bloomin disappointment.
  • In the essence of inciting political debate on a film website, I'll say that it's impossible to pass muster as a candidate without having some of your less-savory relationships dragged through the mud. All Obama can do is renounce his mentor's statements as hateful and move on. Besides, when it comes to crappy company, all politicians have a level playing field. However, Obama might lose his grip on the nomination when people realize he's been affected by gamma radiation and can't control his temper.

It would make for a much better documentary, ahem, Barack-umentary, though.

And for the record, asking me to dip fried onion slices and hand feed them to you, Fure, does not count as 'baptizing one of your children'. One has to wonder whether I got you excommunicated from Outback or if it's because you requested a 145 oz. steak that you didn't finished and, subsequently, didn't pay for. Plus, punching the waiter in the gut as you ran out on your tab only added injury to insult.

You're also the reason I'm not allowed back into Woolworth's. And I'm pretty sure he meant all of them, not just that one store.
  • You guys are cute. Hold hands.
