Helena Bonham Carter Joins Terminator Salvation

The buzz continues to grow around McG’s upcoming “franchise reinventing” Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins thanks to a few positive, early reports from the set and a continued string of good casting selections. Everyone from Christian Bale to Bryce Dallas Howard to up-and-comer Sam Worthington have given the film a legitimacy not normally attached to the frilly, commercialized works of McG. In his defense, not all of his stuff is bad — the Charlie’s Angels flicks were a lot of fun, but We Are Marshall was sad and tragic — and not in an appropriate way.
This new Terminator film is getting another boost today though, as Helena Bonham Carter is reportedly in talks to join the production, which has already gotten underway in New Mexico. Her role, while not disclosed as of yet, is decribed as “small but pivotal” by The Hollywood Reporter.
The fourth installment in the extremely popular Terminator franchise, Salvation looks to begin a second, reinvigorated trilogy by looking at the origins of the battle between humans and Skynet. It features Christian Bale as John Connor in the prime of his life, leading the rebellion against the world’s mechanized occupants. The production, which is one of many in danger of being affected by the potential SAG strike, is in the process of completing many of its exterior shots before it goes on a break scheduled in anticipation of a labor stoppage.
Strike or not, Warner Bros. is confident that the film will be ready to go by May 2009.
How do you feel about the cast of Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins? Does the quality of the cast give you more hope for a good film?
