This top secret movie now officially known as Cloverfield has got myself and uber-producer J.J. Abrams at odds. Abrams thinks that he is being slick by holding out footage and virally marketing the crap out of the Matt Reeves-directed monster movie, but I have other thoughts. My best guess is that Abrams is twice as wily as he appears and the movie is only half as good as we have been led to believe. Sure there will be plenty of suspense when the flick opens on 1-18-08 — the now almost iconic release date — but beyond that, Cloverfield may not deliver much more. Call it a gut feeling (and I have a rather large gut), but this one is starting to wreak.

But alas, only time will tell. And until January 18, 2008 rolls around, the best we can give you is this trailer, which hit the web today in glorious Quicktime High Definition.

As you can see its more shaky handy-cam shots, more people running through the streets and more of the flying Statue of Liberty head. I’m just not sold as of yet, but I am willing to give it time.

Would you like to convince me that this flick is going to be good? State your case below. You have until January 18.
