Less than two months ago we asked our readers to discuss who they think should take on the role of Hal Jordan, aka The Green Lantern, in the upcoming blockbuster film from director Martin Campbell. Various names were tossed around including Ryan Gosling, David Boreanz, Michael C. Hall, and Nathan Lane… but the clear choice and preference of our readers was Captain Hammer himself, Nathan Fillion. Well Drew McWeeny over at HitFix has just posted a pretty surprising casting rumor regarding the film, and some folks are going to be mighty surprised…

It’s not Nathan Fillion.

But according to McWeeny there’s a very good chance The Green Lantern will be played by… Bradley Cooper?

If you’re saying “who?” right now then shame on you. Cooper was most recently seen in Jim Carrey’s Yes Man, The Midnight Meat Train, and He’s Just Not That Into You, but his break out role just may be this summer’s hilarious-looking comedy The Hangover. He’s also been pretty busy on TV with a recurring role on “Nip/Tuck” and a starring role in the short-lived but very funny “Kitchen Confidential.” And if none of that rings a bell he was also the dick in Wedding Crashers. The guy has a fun and energetic screen presence and he seems more than capable of bringing the dramatic when required.

McWeeny is quick to point out that this casting isn’t a lock, but he feels fairly confident. Check out his full HitFix post for more details behind his reasoning.

What do you think of Bradley Cooper as The Green Lantern?

Could work...just saw "Yes Man" the other day....
  • I'm going to throw down and say as well that this could work. Cooper isn't a bad actor. And he's another one of those mid-range names who could (and I know this seems odd) draw attention to the project. Think about Christian Bale playing Batman, or Chris Pine playing Capt. Kirk... Or Hugh Jackman playing Wolverine.

All of these guys were known before they took on these big roles, but none of them were major stars. Now two of them are, with the third well on his way... Cooper fits that mold perfectly.

He does fit that mold, but he looks a little older then I would like.
  • could work, in that pic at the top he looks like Hal in his flight jacket
  • I approve.

The guy is a decent actor but I wouldn't bank a $150 million film on him.
  • Bradley Cooper has been picking up steam in a lot of sidekick roles, and I am ready for him to be front and center. I think his best yet was as the actor on "Nip/Tuck" or his potential upcoming role in "The Hangover".
  • Wes
He was also very likeable on Alias. His simple everyman charm could do Hal Jordan well. I'd lean more towards Brad than Brian Austin Green.
  • For the record, I was never called in for an audition. A major tactical error on the part of the filmmakers.
  • Bradley Cooper, daaaa yummm, I mean yea he can be Hal Jordan I can see that.
