Remember way back last year, almost nine months ago, when Warners announced that instead of getting to see Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince in December like they’d said, you’d get to wait until Summer 2009 to check it out? Now, if you want it in IMAX, you get to wait even longer.

Rejoice!

According to /film, Warners overlooked the simple concept of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen getting exclusive use of IMAX for their release date on July 15th. Oops. So Potter fans will either have to settle for 35mm or wait two weeks to catch it in IMAX. Or see it both ways.

I can’t imagine the die-hards would wait two weeks just for IMAX, but I can imagine potter fans feeling more than happy to see it twice if they get to see it on a giant screen a few weeks after the release.

What do you think?

Hm...I'm not so sure...I'm thinking some of those Potter fans will use today's Woot item to wait outside for the release of the IMAX version (although to be fair to them...they will wait for the 35mm version, as well...).

Who cares. These Harry Potter movies suck.
  • Dammit IMAX, don't screw this up. You need more screens, more venues to show off movies like HP that can garner an audience. As a shareholder, I demand this of you.

I'm still pissed about them releasing it in the summer instead of the fall. HP was ALWAYS a fall thing - Harry went back to school at the same time everyone else did - but the Idiots In Power at Warner's thought that, since THE DARK NIGHT opened in the summer and made a ton of money, it made sense to release HPATHBP at the sem time of year, since lightning always strikes twice in the same place. Idiots, I say again.
