We’ve all been pretty down on the upcoming Will Smith actioner Hancock since its inception. But when you really step back and think about it, Smith is just going back to what he has always done best — big action vehicle on July 4th weekend. I have to hand it to him, he has never failed at that. In fact, I don’t know if Will Smith has ever really failed at much of anything. Some would say that George Clooney is the last great movie star, I would argue that Will Smith is that man.

As for this movie itself, this clip looks a lot better than previous ones, showing off a little bit more of Hancock‘s badass side. When I stop and allow myself to realize what is in front of me, a big action comedy that puts Will Smith front and center, flanking him with the very sexy Charlize Theron and the always funny Jason Bateman, I lose sight of what might have been wrong with the situation. Hancock may just be a good flick. Either way, this thing is going to roll in cash like Scrooge McDuck.

Hancock drops into theaters on July 2nd.
