Haley Passes Rorscharch Test, Wins Krueger Role
In Development By Robert Fure on April 3, 2009 | (14) Comments
Back in February the boys at Latino Review had the inside line that Jackie Earle Haley was going to slip on the red and green and slice his way through your nightmares. Platinum Dunes said no one had been selected yet and at a Watchmen junket Haley said he couldn’t talk about it because there wasn’t anything to talk about, but he would be interested in such a role.
Cue today, where the deadheads at Bloody-Disgusting are saying that Haley is a lock for the part and an official announcement will becoming next week. This can only be chalked up into the good news category as it was almost universally agreed that Haley looked like he would make a good Krueger and that was before we had even seen his kick-ass role in Watchmen. Perhaps the only other person fans would even consider for the role would be Robert Englund himself, but he was never on the table as an option. Neither was this guy.
Update: Before we could even submit this article to the front page, we got hit with more casting news, again from the Blood-Disgusting dudes. Word is that The Haunting in Connecticut star Kyle Gallner will take on the role of Quentin, a podcast host who is apparently the updated version of Johnny Depp’s character. No word on whether Quentin will be sucked into his bed and then erupt into a geyser of blood, but we can assume something suitably nasty will await him. A Nightmare on Elm Street is produced by Platinum Dunes and directed by Samuel Bayer. As for the plot, why do I feel like you all know that already?
Currently, the new nightmare is set to terrorize you in your sleep on April 16th, 2010. I’d say with the successful relaunches of The Amityville Horror, Friday the 13th, and Texas Chainsaw Massacre, this is another Platinum Dunes release we’ll all want to keep an eye on. PS: Michael Bay – AWESOME.
What do you think of Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy Kreuger?
