Guillermo Del Toro Will Be At The Mountains of Madness
Movie News By Cole Abaius on October 3, 2007 | (2) Comments
It’s looking like Guillermo del Toro may finally get his wish to turn At the Mountains of Madness into a reality. The novella by science fiction icon H.P. Lovecraft, a name that geeks consider sacrosanct and normal people think is an amateur porn actor, has been on the master filmmaker’s to-do list for quite some time. However, as with most things without studio backing, it was touch to get off the ground.
Now, Latino Review is reporting that del Toro will follow up Hellboy 2: The Golden Army with Mountains, the story of an expedition to the Antarctic where a team travels beyond the world’s tallest mountains to find that the fossils of a mythic race may not be all they left behind.
With del Toro’s passion for the project and his incredible style, it should be a winner, although he’s previously noted the difficulty of selling a movie to the studios that has no love story and no happy ending.
If Latino Review is correct, then Universal Pictures is the studio willing to take the risk on a science-fiction think piece by an early 20th century author whose most famous mainstream work could be confused for a Metallica song. If this comes to fruition, it’ll be a refreshing change that del Toro certainly deserves after his Hellboy success and artistic triumph with Pan’s Labyrinth.
We’ll be keeping an eye on this one. Be on the lookout for more news in the coming weeks.
