Christian Bale plays the best Batman yet. I loved Batman Begins and can’t wait to see its successor.

Most of the pics look good, but I’m not impressed at all by the Joker. The Joker didn’t wear makeup, his skin was actually chalk white and his lips were red and his face was frozen in the rictus grin. Batman Begins was a great movie, I really hope they don’t screw up the Joker with this one, he’s the ultimate Batman villain.

Joker with make-up?! What’s up with that? Also, scroll up a picture or two, the one with Bruce and Alfred….Alf is bigger than Bruce! Poor casting….its all about the rubber suit. Could we please get a hero that at least in one movie actually looks like the comics???

I think the joker twist might be that he was up to no good before the accident, using makeup as his disguise. The accident is then some sort of self, fulfilling prophesy where he becomes actually disfigured. Just a guess. Otherwise, it makes as little sense to me that he would be in makeup before the accident, unless they are messing with the order of the films.

The Joker in “The Dark Knight” is based off of The Joker’s first two comic book appearances, it never said in those first comics whether or not he wore make up or if that’s the way he really looks. There’s never been an official Joker origin.
August 17th, 2007 at 10:47 am

Did you notice that there is a new batman suit, one is like the old one from the Batman Begins, the other is like the robotic shit from the other Batman horrible movies, this new suit SUCKS!
The joker looks realistic and I think thats the director aproach, remeber the scarecrow, he wasnt a scarecrow at all, but he was nicely realistic shaped.
This joker looks more fuck up and the joker is a really fuck up character!

Gooch: Killing Joke was the official Joker origin. It’s not makeup. His entire body is chalk white.

Those who are saying killing joke is not the official origin is correct, most places say there is no official origin of joker. None the less you cannot say ledger looks bad he makes the character looked screwed and saddistic like the shower should be and unlike past joker interpretations. Nolan is doing what every other director failed to do. I wish joker would looked more like this in the past, how can u have a realistic character falling into a vat of chemicals and surviving. This movie is going to be insanely good, just wait and see

Oh yeah, i love how they’re getting away from past interpretations, purple suit, green hair, maniacal laugh…waitaminit… And AGAIN, stop making superhero’s look like toys so you can license toys! Batman looks stupid as crap with that football helmet on. Were this a real modern interpretation of the the book, the government would have already caught him and taken his fantastic technologies from him to be used for military applications. Please someone just make the damn movie like it is in the book. Built guy, cloth suit, bulletproof vest underneath, surly attitude. If it’s good for the comics, why isn’t it good for the cinema? And please, no more Superman movies. Brandon Routh sucks and the Superman Returns should have been named Superman Remade… It’s a nearly point by point remake of the original. God I’m sick of directors with “creative liberties”…

Neurothustrak,
The Killing Joke is not part of the story arc, it’s out of continuity, and solely served to give a possible explanation to the Joker’s origin. IF you are familiar with The Killing Joke though, you might remember the Joker saying that sometimes he remembers his past one way, sometimes another.
Like I said though, this Joker is based off of the first two appearances of The Joker, and in those appearances, as well as 11 years after those first appearances, The Joker has no origin.

What are you guys talking about? I hardly even noticed he was wearing a new suit. You have no right to complain, until the slap the rubber nipples on him. Since the haven’t done that, and they haven’t traced every muscle line with a blinking light, I think it would be good to calm down. As for the Joker, I was thinking the same thing as “Kyle” said. He probably already did crime like that; with make up, and then maybe later gets turned into a real version of what he already was.
If you watched the first movie, then it would be obvious why the government didn’t already take his suit. The guy who made the suit in the movie said that he made if for the government to use in the military, but that it was way to expensive to mass produce.
Lastly, if anyone is still trying to figure out why they “don’t just put kind of a strong guy in a cloth suit,” watch that ridiculous batman movie from like 1950 with all the villains in it. If you put a guy in a cloth suit, no matter how strong he is, he will always always just look frumpy and fat. Especially on film.
August 17th, 2007 at 5:21 pm
God….this looks like it is going to be a train-wreck of a film.
Batman Begins was a good start to vindicating the movies….but lets get real here. Dark Knight looks like it’s going to be a bad James Bond movie with costumes.
The Batman suit in and of itself looks like a medieval suit of armor, the Joker looks like a cheap hack (not to mention not scary in the least bit) and the hype about the car and the bike looks like some little teen geek’s wet dream.
Think about the comic books. Think about how well Jeph Loeb and Frank Miller portrayed the realm of Gotham and how insanely bad-ass that Batman was and how fear-inducing all those villains were.
This new movie is turning into something that in no way, shape or form lives up to the mythos behind the Batman.

Funny how ur all complaing about his make-up, cause if u look closly at joker images u’ll see that the smile is a SCAR! There are bubbles(boils), cut marks and everything. its a danm SCAR that he plays up with the make-up.
Oh and “Killing Joke” isn’t his origins, the book is showing the “possibilty” of what MIGHT hv happned. Cuase no one rele KNOWS!!

Guys if you think the movie looks crap your most probably going to be wrong. As Batman Begins was a massive success i also have high hopes for this movie. And even tough it looks alot lighter, think of it as these pictures were taken from a regular camera as you can tell from the third picture having wires infront of the lense. And remember after the movie is edited im sure they will tint the pictre and give it a more cinematic look which will result in a more richer colour and should be darker. Think of these pics as the set pics as thats how the look to me due to the angles, colour, etc.
Anyway i cant wat for this movieits going to be a massive success. And by hearing people talk about the footage seen at wizard world, i can tell they are hyped about it. And remember Nolan is directing this movie so im sure he wont screw it up.

Just a follow up t my previous comment. If you see the pictures of batman jumping down onto the car, you can see the cable used. That shows th images are on et images as they wouldnt sho the safety rope in the movie.
August 17th, 2007 at 9:08 pm
I have mixed feelings re: this movie. I agree, the Joker didn’t wear the white makeup. It was the chemical bath that made him green, white, and red. Also, why is Batman aiming a rifle? Batman detests guns of any kind because his parents were shot. There are many references to this point and thus Batman had all the cool gadgets and no projectile weapons. He was mostly defensive.
August 17th, 2007 at 9:38 pm
The new suit looks fine to me. Christian Bale is the perfect Bruce Wayne. He has the musculature to play Batman. He is a great actor and a wonderful Batman. The Joker looks way better than I thought he would. Looks better than the Burton Joker, in my opinion.
Chemical baths, radiation, etc etc are all fodder of the 1950s. We now know that stuff doesn’t happen. He probably has a new origin that will be fine.
Batman used guns both during the Silver Age and in later reincarations of his early years, such as Batman Year Two. In one Silver Age comic he had a bat-machine gun, no joke.
But I believe that gun wielding batman is a faker and the real batman will whip his ass shortly. The modern batman (1996 and later) is the one that has the real problem with killing and guns. I dont mind that turn.
A recent (couple months ago) issue had a fake batman shooting someone. Probably drawn from there.
This movie will be awesome.

August 17th, 2007 at 10:38 pm
(in that comment, I meant Two-Face, and I meant before the movie comes out in leaked photographs such as these. Anyway, yeah come bet.)
August 17th, 2007 at 10:58 pm
That’s “hi-res”? Maybe on a 286 with a CGA it would be. For a second I thought this might be something else than the old Brazilian Myspace photos that everyone saw two days ago. Good job waking up, though.
By the way, Ledger looks like shit. Fittingly for this movie. We’ll still have the real Batman, though - Michael Keaton.
August 17th, 2007 at 11:44 pm
This stuff looks fantastic. But I still don’t understand the flaming. Put Bale in a cloth suit?? They did that in the Spider-Man movies and Superman Returns. Both Tobey and Routh wore a freaking rubber “muscle” suit underneath their costumes to give them a muscular form. Bale is actually ripped, and it’s all the more an impressive feat since he’s regained muscle after losing a good deal of weight. TWICE. This new suit looks awesome. It’s not just “a costume to protect said character’s identity”, it’s basically a weapon in and of itself. It was made with a mesh underlining with separate pieces of rubber, plastic, and other materials over the mesh. The mesh material helps bind the suit to Bale’s body, which basically achieves the effect of a cloth suit, while the individual parts maintain an armored basis. Also, as an improvement over the Begins suit, it makes Bats look less bulky; rather than a muscle-bound vigilante, he looks like a strong AND agile crime fighter.
At least take comfort in the fact that, when Batman is onscreen fighting baddies, you’ll be seeing REAL muscles flex under that mesh/armor suit.
August 17th, 2007 at 11:47 pm
as for the Jokers “origin” in the Official DC Comics Encyclopedia the Joker has no real name all that is known is that he was a small time crime boss known as the red hood who when robbing the Ace Chemical plant was thwarted by batman causing him to fall into the vat of chemicals. some think he may have been a failed comic driven to crime after the death of his wife and unbord child. the only thing that might be bad about this one is that the Batcave is not very caveish

August 18th, 2007 at 3:25 am
Ok, so what if Killing Joke is the not the “official” origin of The Joker. It’s still Allan Moore and Alan Moore kicks ass. I for one think Heath Ledger will do a great job as the Joker. For those who think Jack Nicholson was soooo great, it WAS JUST JACK NICHOLSON playing himself in JOKER make-up. For those who are bitching over the make-up, get over it!! This movie is supposed to be based in a world with some sort of reality. No one’s face is perfectly bleached white with a perfect red grin and green hair. The idea of the scars on the side of his mouth are awesome. The batsuit has gone through some changes, true, but look at the comics. They are always reinventing the suit. So stop bitching your little heads off about it. You’re going to see it when it comes out and then if it’s great you’re all going to either keep your mouths shut or bitch about one little detail that you’re going to make the biggest deal out of. There’s no movie based on a comic that has come out where you guys DON’T bitch about something! It’s crazy how you guys claim to be fans and then do everything within your power to talk shit about the movie and everyone in it. If you think you’re so great, go make the damn movie yourselves.
August 18th, 2007 at 5:02 am
Most of you nubsauces are missing the point. This “Joker” doesn’t actually LOOK like a JOKER. Does he even remotely resemble the Joker on a deck of playing cards, from which he originally received the inspiration for his new criminal persona?? No! He looks like a destitute homeless guy who found some makeup in a trash can and decided to have some fun with it!
Ledger’s incarnation looks less like “Clown Prince of Crime” and more like “Clown Beggar of Crime”.

Hell even Sin City wasn’t 100% like the comic and that USED the comic almost panel for panel. 300 did too. Spider-man isn’t 100% like the comic and everyone loves the franchise! Coz they all kept the essence just like Begins did and just like this one will. Hell he looks like Batman. I think soem of us are missing the point; remember the joker is an insane pyschopath, and although its whatr is mostly accepted as canon, the dramatic falling into a chemical vat and being hidiously scarred and deformed kinda outshines the Joker’s natural and chilling evilness, wouldnt it be REALLY scary to see a bad guy who has no remorse, kindness, and is full of evil for no reason? I’d find that fery scary, things that have no answer can be scary, if that made sense xD
by making most of it, except the horrible scar on his cheeks, makeup it can enhane and draw more attention to the charecters personality and psychopathicness than us just raving about his facial features

Is it me or does Bale look like hes lost a lot of weight and muscle in this one? He is ultra imposing in Begins but not so much in this. Didn’t he lose some weight for another role? Perhaps he didn’t put it back on in time for shooting?
January 28th, 2008 at 3:48 pm
6 months til July… :(
Re: Spider-Man
Your comparison with Routh and Bale makes sense, since both characters are obviously ripped, but you can’t include Maguire; spider man is NOT supposed to look extremely buff. Lets be realistic - he was a high school student, to all of a sudden become so big is laughable. Can’t be said for the last two movies, but Tobey did work out exceptionally for the first one. Maybe you’re confusing Spider Man with VENOM?
