We don’t always cover a lot of cool stuff from places like The History Channel because, for the most part, we love cinematic experiences and TV that replicates that emotion. Though for me at least, once I’m done powering through 4 hours of DVR’d awesome, I tune into the science channels for a few hours of survival training. That said, when we do come across a cool idea, we like to share. Especially when that cool idea also wants to give you free stuff.
Expedition Africa is a new show premiering on The History Channel on May 31st. It will follow the real life journey of a small group of explorers who use rudimentary equipment to retrace the journey of Henry Morton Stanley, the journalist who famously trekked into Africa to find Dr. Livingston. Or so we presume.
Here is the official monkey-see monkey-do mandatory copy and a description of the prize bag you’ll have a shot to win.
HISTORY™ presents the television event of the summer:
EXPEDITION AFRICA: STANLEY & LIVINGSTON.
Watch the series premiere May 31 at 10pm/9c. Twenty miles off the coast of eastern Africa, four modern-day explorers are sailing toward the unknown, the deep interior of Tanzania. They’ll travel over 900 miles through African terrain that is as stunning as it is fraught with danger. Using only a compass and basic maps, they will attempt to recapture the spirit of one of the world’s most remarkable adventures—journalist Henry Morton Stanley’s perilous 1871 journey to find Dr. David Livingstone. Their historic exploration has been captured by one of the premiere storytellers of our time, Mark Burnett. This is not a competition or a game. It’s a real-life adventure. Check out this video above to whet your appetite and think over the question below. The winner will be chosen on May 28th, so be sure to get your entry in by then. In order to win, you must be a legal resident of the United States or Canada.
If you were traveling through Africa on foot, what one amenity would you take? Also, because I make the rules, what one DVD would you take for your portable DVD player that runs on solar power?
