Ricky Gervais’ ‘Truth’ Blog Goes Live… Obviously

The original BBC “Office” creator Ricky Gervais just started a new blog for his upcoming comedy This Side of Truth. The blog, found over at rickygervais.com, is tracking production of the film Gervais has written with “Office” co-creator Stephen Merchant and co-directing with Matt Robinson.

So far Ricky’s put up two posts—one about potential DVD extras for when the film has already endured a theatrical run and a video post featuring the location scouting, looking at the clay model of a CGI boar (with massive testicles), and what it’s like to be an assistant for Ricky Gervais.*

Gervais, recently seen on the award-winning HBO series “Extras,” is a superb and irreverent comedian. His sly British humor is subtle enough for intellectuals and broad enough for the masses. He masks his social commentary with a Joker-esque laugh and those that listen to “The Ricky Gervais Show,” a podcast from Guardian Unlimited, are familiar.** Hopefully This Side of Truth will bring Gervais into the forefront of American cinema, more so than his bit appearances in stinkers like Night at the Museum, Stardust, and Valiant.

This Side of Truth is about a man living in a world where there are no lies who finds a way to bend the truth. It begins filming soon and co-stars Jennifer Garner, Jonah Hill, Rob Lowe, Christopher Guest, Jeffrey Tambor, Tina Fey, and Louis C.K.

* Apparently being an assistant to Ricky Gervais means getting assaulted by a barrage of foam, robber-tipped Nerf arrows.

** Additionally, “The Ricky Gervais Show” may be more well-known for the lunatic ramblings of co-host Karl Pilkington with his hilarious philosophies and refusal to understand elementary science. One of his better quotes in the show’s history is “if you just talk, I find that your mouth comes out with stuff” (I think fellow podcasters can relate to that quote). He also has a head that closely resembles an orange and thinks Morgan Freeman is in Independence Day. Oh, he’s also a comedic genius.
