FSR Morning Announcements: Monday, November 6

Posted by Neil Miller (neil@filmschoolrejects.com) on November 6, 2006

Real bloggers call it “speedlinking.” Real journalists would call it “news bites.” Since we are neither of those, here at Film School Rejects we call it the Morning Announcements - our little way of bringing you all of the movie news that you want, with none of the crap that you don’t need. Think of it like a skim milk version of movie news - just a bit more tasty. So without further ado, here is issue #1, dated Monday November 6, 2006:

Borat dominates the box office. Very Nice! (via JoBlo)
Everyone’s favorite Kazhak journalist brought his movie-film to the U.S. and A, then his people decided that it only needed to be shown on 800 or so screens across the country. It turns out that they are smarter than the rest of us. The film was a “great success,” hauling in over $26 million even with its semi-limited release. The only question left - what happens when they put it in more theaters?

Spiderman 3 gets more bad-ness. (via Dark Horizons)
And that bad-ness will come from - Bruce Campbell? Killer! Campbell is rumored to play Quentin Beck [aka Mysterio], whom I’m sure uber-geek Spidey fans will know. For my purposes, it means the potential of more fight seens. Yessss!

Halo movie gets pewned. (via ComingSoon.net)
Oh Peter Jackson, we were all really rooting for the Halo flick! We are sure that it isn’t completely dead, but for now - it is laid to rest. First Fox and Universal both passed, then they spent all week explaining why. For Halo fans, there is not explaination that will take away the pain…

Carell’s Evan is Almighty, and his teaser is online. (via AOL Movies)
Bruce was pretty good, but his movie was almost taken over by Steve Carell as Evan Baxter. So of course the quick to make a buck guy at Universal said “We need a sequel!” The first teaser is online, and looking as funny as can be expected.

Animated films rise up for Oscar contention. (via Cinematical)
2006 has been another great year for animated cinematic adventures. Now just 16 films have been named as qualifying for the Academy Awards voting. Pretty sweet. My vote? The movie that is not even out yet - Happy Feet.

That is the news for your Monday Morning. If you have some sweet, breaking news that you would like us to share please email it to editors@filmschoolrejects.com. Until tomorrow… I’m out!
