It’s more ancient history for Gianni Nunnari and Mark Canton, the producers of the smash hit film 300. The pair is planning to produce a historical drama based on Conn Iggulden’s bestselling “Emperor Book” series about the life of Julius Caesar.

The books The Gates of Rome, The Death of Kings, The Field of Swords and The Gods of War, explore the life of Julius Caesar starting with the future Emperor at the age of eight and continuing until his assassination in the Senate. William Broyles, Flags of Our Fathers, has written the screenplay. There’s no information about whether the film will combine two or more of the books or keep them in chronological order. Since the first book is about the Caesar as a very young boy, I could see this used in flashback to the later books which deal with the adult Caesar and his ascent to power in Rome.

This could be a really great film if the producers put together the right director and lead actor.

Who do you think could play Julius Caesar? Who do you think could direct the film?
