Seriously? U.F.O.? Wow, of all the shows I remember growing up with this is the very LAST I would have picked for a reboot/reenvisioning.

Are they going to remake Space 1999 next? (Which I loved as a kid. I imagine I'd hate it today, but at that time it was great.)

I guess I better break out my Project Enterprise U.F.O. toys.

I agree with your second question wholeheartedly. Not only did I used to watch the show on WHYY (a NJ local/public television channel) when it was originally aired, my wife bought me the box-set as a present for either my birthday or a holiday…I can't remember which.
