I wonder why even bother doing a remake if you're just going to give it "an almost shot-for-shot resemblance to the original?" Bring something original to the table. I don't have a problem with remakes, but I think they ought to be more like re-imaginings or reinterpretations than the same exact thing as the previous movie. It's just redundant.

I agree. The first film was actually scary, as apposed to the string of laughable sequels that it spawned. I hope that this version hits the mark like the recent horror remakes. Alot of people dislike the remakes, I for one find them, for the most part, very good and more often than not better and scarier than the originals. Take a movie like "Last House On The Left", it is a classic but as far as scary, not really. Few of the originals stand the test of time for a modern audience. The remakes of "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre", "Black Christmas", "the Amittyville Horror" and "My Bloody Valentine" were all much better and scarier than the originals. "Friday The 13th" and "Halloween" are classics but I think that the remake process tightened up the plots and finetuned the films by incorporating aspects of more than the first film in the franchise. I am all for this remake and just hope that it is a good reimagining and pays homage to the source material.

Jackie Earle Haley could not have been better casting. This is a remake I am actually looking forward to. The original Elm Street was pretty serious itself, it wasn't until the later sequels that Freddy became more comical.

Visually, it looks great, and I think Jackie Earle Haley is a terrific actor. I'm just worried about it being "too serious." Robert Englund brought so much personality to the character. Without the dark humor, will Freddy Krueger be dull? And the trailer implies that Freddy is a man falsely accused -- so why would his monstrous after-life version of himself go around killing kids in their dreams instead of going after the mob who wrongly killed him? But I'll hold my judgement until I see the movie.

-- Nick
from City of Kik
http://nickleshi.blogspot.com
