Frank Darabont, Indiana Jones and More Problems for Writers

When we met up with Frank Darabont after a party at the Keating Hotel in San Diego this past summer, we spoke about a few things. We spoke about his upcoming film The Mist, with our friend Thomas Jane, and also about Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of The Crystal Skull. He sounded just as excited for it, as he did for his own film. However, even then he had something to say about writing credit.
According to MTV News, Darabont had this to say concerning his involvement in the new Indiana Jones script:
“I haven’t read the script, [but] at a certain point I will because I’m sure there will be an arbitration over writing credits,” he revealed. “I keep hearing from people who are near the production and they keep saying, ‘You know, they’re using more of your ideas here than you may have thought.’”
This comes as no surprise, because when we spoke to him in July he was already talking about the film and the direction that they took with the script. He told us that he was anxious to see who took credit for bringing actress Karen Allen back into the story. According to Darabont, Allen (which you may remember for her role as Marion Ravenwood in Raiders of The Lost Ark) was originally brought up within his script and the idea was well received. So Darabont was curious to see who would end up taking the credit for the move.
Darabont is a good man though, not willing to let it get the best of him. When push comes to shove, he still had this to say about the film:
“I know Steven Spielberg is not going to disappoint us. He’s going to make a great movie,” Darabont praised. “As a fan, I’m keeping my fingers crossed. I hope it turns out great.”
