Scarlett Johansson is a great actress. It's important to note that actors don't act great without any commands. I should know, I tried to make a short film once and couldn't describe the character well enough and the whole thing suffered (sucked). I do think she's stronger in non-action movies, but I'm open to being surprised. People said Matt Damon didn't look like James Bond when he was cast in Bourne Identity. A lot of good Cold-War spy stories feature beautiful women who are actually spies but fall under the radar behind enemy lines. I don't think looking "actiony" is a big deal. It may work this time since Favreau likes focusing on characters more than Michael Bay. I say give her one more shot. The only bad thing about the whole possible casting is that it may be for Black Widow 2 not the original Natasha Romanova. The half-shirt wearing blonde ditz, not the bodysuit red-head bombshell.

I think it depends on which Scarlett Johansson shows up. She had several great acting performances under her belt, she also has a bunch of walk throughs where she is just picking up a paycheck.

You know I'm for Christopher's comment I mean come on! i saw her in The Other Boleyn Girl, and I thought she did not do a good job of the role all I see is Natalie Portman's performance overpowering Scarlett's character portrayal of the goodie sis. I saw Vicky Christina Barcelona for the first time on DVD (last night to be exact and I know what was am I been missing all along). I mean she is cute and F**kable and all (nice tits btw) her acting is...blah. I would've just passed her for Eliza Duschko for the role instead. I'm soo sorry but if this is Marvel's idea of a joke then I'm scared of what will they do with the Avengers project. I thought Jon Fav is way better than this.

Oh btw, I'm still routing for Asia Argento for the role first of all she is no stranger to low budget movies (ahem B-movies ahem). Or maybe hire one of the Victoria Secret model for the screen time filler (or tight suit filler if you know what I mean rrrrroooowarrrr).

If we're looking for bad actors, we might as well through in Nicholas Cage. Good choice - maybe two pieces of kindling can light as bonfire of a disaster.

RDJ always makes his co-stars look good, but do we really have to give him this awful choice to work with??

Here we go, another bad casting call by the directors. Hell lets add John Travolta to the mix.

we've both made our points..let's wait and see what happens in the end.....good or bad it's Marvel's call...to be honest I'm more impressed by the fact Marvel finally gets to cast without studio interferences

using a Michael Bay film as an acting example isn't really fair...anyone in a Bay movie can end up acting horrible because he's a lousy director...If you look back to Ghost World, Lost In Translation, Match Point, A Love Song For Bobby Long and Vicky Christina she has acting abilities....she just seems to choose poor commercial projects... I wouldn't blame her bad performance in the Spirit it would be the person "directing" her and writing her lines....as much as I like her she still doesn't fit the role as you say...there are a lot of people who have been cast in the past that didn't fit and surprised us....she has the looks and seductive charms to play the character...I think that's all we really need

Dushku would have been the perfect person to play Black Widow if she was a mute and Blunt would be perfect if she didn't have to do any stunts or fighting....I still can't see Emily holding a gun and being threating like the character seems to be in the comics... I agree she has the look and the British accent may give the impression of class but she's just an average actress...I don't understand her acting superiority over others with her limited film credits...

let's not forget this is a Robert Downey Jr. movie...so when it comes down it I could careless who they cast to take up the 20-30 minutes of screen time playing Black Widow....they can always recast like they did with Jim Rhodes and possibly Nick Fury down the line...as long as RDJ and Favreau are back I'm happy....

We seldom disagree, but I think we've found something here. Maybe a Bay film is unfair, but it's the most notable action flick she's been in. And she brings the same energy to it that she does Lost in Translation. As long as she's in a subdued film about someone being bored, she does fine, but she looks like she's on Zoloft in almost every scene she's in. Bored in Japan, Bored in a rural town, Bored while Topher Grace is trying to date her. Those are her roles.

The only thing I can see aiding her is that if she NAILS a russian accent she'll be able to sink into the character enough for me to forget that it's Black Widow and now Scarlett Johansson on screen.
