Robert Downey Jr and Jamie Foxx in The Soloist

The folks over at Yahoo Movies debuted the first trailer for director Joe Wright’s (Atonement) upcoming film The Soloist, which stars Robert Downey Jr. and Jamie Foxx. The film follows the story of a journalist (Downey) who meets up with a schizophrenic homeless man (Foxx) who is an incredibly gifted musician. Together, they both try and get back on their feet and follow their dreams, and whatnot. It is based on a true story and it is already starting to get some Oscar buzz, so you might just want to pay attention to the first trailer below.

Portions of The Soloist were also shot in Cleveland, Ohio, where Jamie Foxx’s character Nathaniel Ayers was born and raised. While the production was in town, our own Brian Gibson got an exclusive set visit, where he talked with Joe Wright about the film. Have a look at his report here.

What do you think of the first trailer for The Soloist?

i feel like it's going to be sorely underrated or overrated. i'm not a big fan of joe
wright and atonement was definitely not THAT impressive, but i like how rdj's been
on a roll lately and well the film boasts a wealth of acting talent and it's not a period
piece so i yet to see
  • Big Word
Wow. I'm interested in seeing more of this film from a director known for period-piece/chick flicks....I'm actually intrigued so I have to say that this is a GREAT 1st trailer! I hope that the trailer didn't have the best parts so that the film itself actually ends up floppier than a disk in need of a factory of Viagra.
  • Wait...schizophrenic homeless man? They made a Wesley Willis biopic??

    But seriously, this looks fantastic.
  • Komikon

Luckily, Foxx has decided not to go Full Retard.

This looks like its going to be an incredibly touching movie, I actually teared up during the trailer and I'm not a big fan of movies like this.

No doubt that with Robert Downey Jr. in this movie, nothing can go wrong. It looks like its going to be amazing.
  • OMG Cole, that makes two people on this site that know who Wesley Willis is...he whooped Superman's ass
