First Look
First Synecdoche, New York Trailer Isn’t as Odd as You’d Think

When you think about Charlie Kaufman, writer of Confessions of a Dangerous Mind and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, you aren’t going to be thinking about movies that are simple, or easy to understand when taken at face value. But for those paying attention to his work, they know that it is often brilliant. That fact has led me to become interested in his writing and directorial work Synecdoche, New York, which stars Philip Seymour Hoffman as a theater director who spends nearly two decades of his life creating a life-size replica of New York inside a warehouse for his new play. And as you will see from the trailer below, the film has a very unique look to it, as well as an amazing cast.
Personally, I am looking forward to this one in a big way. Not only am I a fan of Kaufman’s work, but I think that any time you can bring the likes of Hope Davis, Samantha Morton, Catherine Keener, Michelle Williams, Jennifer Jason Leigh and P.S. Hoffman together for a film with an undoubtedly intelligent script, it’s likely that you have a winner. Of course, we will see how it turns out when it begins its limited release on October 24th.
The trailer can be seen in high definition over at Yahoo Movies.
