First Official Photos: Depp and Bale in ‘Public Enemies’

Public Enemies

Empire Magazine has published some first look photos from Michael Mann’s upcoming gangsta — rather, gangster film Public Enemies. The story focuses on the government’s attempt to stop famed mobster John Dillinger (Johnny Depp) in the 1930s. Christian Bale will play FBI agent Melvin Purvis. David Wenham, Stephen Graham, Marion Cotillard, Channing Tatum, Giovanni Ribisi, Stephen Dorff, Adam Mucci, Billy Crudup, Stephen Lang, Shawn Hatosy, Emilie de Ravin, James Russo and Leelee Sobieski will also star.

While I’m not going to get wet in the seat for this one just yet, as Michael Mann has been up and down as of late, it is impossible to overlook a strong cast. That, and I have a serious hard spot for old timey gangster flicks — the world needs more of them, and fast. Have a look at the images above or head over to Empire Online to see larger versions.

    Hmmm...With all the rumors of Depp maybe being casted as the Riddler for Batman 3 (The Dark Knight 2), it sounds like Johnny is trying to warm up for Christian Bale perhaps and maybe Marion Cotillard as Catwoman?
    Just a thought...

    Ok ok I know. But I would really like to see Depp as Riddler in the next Batman movie. In the meantime I'll check out the movie once it comes out.

    Regardless of Mann's movies lately, Depp and Bale are talented actors and will do this movie well. Esp since its 1930's. Then again, the last time Bale did that era he was in Newsies...err...
