Brad Pitt’s latest project, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford seems to be flying below the radar a little bit. It is one of two westerns that are potentially going to make some waves this fall. 3:10 to Yuma being the other. Pitt plays Jesse James in his mid thirties and Casey Affleck alongside him as Robert Ford, a young man who idolizes James and ultimately gets a little too close. Check out the first full length trailer below.

Is anybody else totally psyched to see the return of the Western as a viable genre?

The only thing I'm dreading are the inevitable remakes, if other studios should jump on the bandwagon.

There is and only ever will be one Man With No Name. And his name is Clint. Never mind that "A Fistful of Dollars" was itself a remake.
  • Yeah, I'd like to see the western come back. Still, along with Eastwood's Man With No Name, I'd have to include as a GREAT western, The Magnificent Seven, with McQueen. That was a remake of Kurasawa's The Seven Samurai, but equally great.

I wonder if this Jesse James movie will be revisionist as the others were, or make some attempt at truth. I also wonder of fans really want the truth any more. Maybe we're like Colonel Jessup says, "[We] can't handle the truth."

    :-) Just ruminatin'

I'm more excited than most anyone for these two movies. I have an amazing amount of faith in both. They both look like true Westerns. None of this American Outlaws bull. And no arthouse stuff like Blueberry or The Proposition. Straight up Westerns. And the Jesse James one, I believe, is going to be based very strongly in fact, though you can already see they're romanticizing JJ a bit much, with all his pensive looks and Brad Pitt's dreamy..er... his eyes.

And 3:10, sweet lord, that looks amazing. Christian Bale = WIN.

And if anyone doubts my devotion to Westerns:
    I cook with Cast Iron.
I'm a registered member of the Single Action Shooter Society (SASS) which takes part in CAS (Cowboy Action Shooting).
I subscribe to True West Magazine.
I subscribe to The Cowboy Chronicle Newspaper.
I drove over a hundred miles out of my way to visit Tombstone Arizona and Fort Sumter. I have pictures of all the graves.
I fell for the double dip of The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.
My ringtone for my phone is the theme from above movie.

I could go on, but I feel like I've already ruined my shot with any ladies on the board enough.
