First Look: Jamal Woolard as Biggie

A few weeks back, we reported that the production of the upcoming Notorious B.I.G biopic Notorious had found its star. Now we have our first look at that star in full Biggie-mode. Producer Wayne Barrow recently posted this pic of Jamal Woolard on his production blog.

Not only is Woolard a Brooklyn native, but he’s a dead ringer for Biggie.

Wait, is it alright to call him a ‘dead ringer’? It’s okay, right?

Anyway, it’s time to get excited about this film. We’ll have to wait to see how the newcomer’s acting chops are, but it’s got a great cast featuring Academy Award winner Angela Bassett, is being supervised by Biggie’s mom and P. Diddy, and it looks like their star fits the rapper’s shoes just right.

We’ll keep an eye out for more updates. If all stays on course, Notorious is set for an early 2009 release.

Sagacity

I don't know if I want to see a movie about Biggie. Its as if he never really died; there have been three posthumous CD's and documentaries and so much talk about him being the best rapper ever. Then, what is the movie really going to be about? I don't know, I'm afraid of a bad rapper movie, there's so many of them. It just seems to me like this is the last cash cow for the Biggie Smalls franchise. Will we ever let him rest in peace?
