First Look: Hancock Movie Trailer
Posted by Neil Miller (neil@filmschoolrejects.com) on December 17, 2007
Just as Will Smith is breaking box office records as the last man on Earth in I Am Legend, the fine folks at JoBlo are debuting the trailer for his upcoming superhero comedy Hancock. Smith stars as a super-strong flying hero who doesn’t seem at all interested with saving the world. The trailer shows some of the supporting cast, including Charlize Theron and Jason Bateman (who drops in at the end with a hilarious line about “Green Peace”). Take a look for yourself:
At the request of the Studio, this video has been removed.

This looks stupid. Will Smith had been making some good choices up until now. I could be wrong. I thought the same thing about I, Robot but he made that work well enough.

I agree Will Smith has been making some good movies, and no I’m not a huge super fan. But this movie to me looks some what funny, a different character for Smith but from the preview it looks like he filled it well.

This movie looks HILARIOUS!!!

I dunno, somehow I’d expect this from a Will Ferrell-movie and not Will Smith.
December 18th, 2007 at 2:57 pm
looks humorous enough. i’d watch it on dvd…why not?
December 18th, 2007 at 3:02 pm
I’m real anxious to see his interaction with other superheroes and what they think of him.
December 18th, 2007 at 3:32 pm
I think it looks good

I am a big fan of Will Smith, I think he is a very good actor and he deserves to break box office records.

Eh. I’m highly skeptical of any superhero parody movie… seeing as there’s *never* been a good one!
In fact, back when Hancock was first announced, I wrote about in a post called “Five Movies That Remind Us What’s Wrong with Superhero Parodies”:

If you look Hancock up on IMDb it says it’s Drama and Action and one of the plot keywords is “Interracial Relationships”–WTF? IMDb makes me laugh sometimes, how did they think this would be a comedy, because of Peter Berg’s involvement?

Whats up with this comment: “It appears that JoBlo has taken down their version, so we’ve posted an even higher res version.” was filmschoolrejects.com using someone else’s bandwidth to show the trailer? With as many ads that this site uses, you would think they could afford not to leech off of someone else’s bandwidth.

thanks for the information and happy holidays

lilricky — until earlier today, the JoBlo version was the only one we could find on the web. It just so happened that right when theirs went down, we got another version from our friends at First Showing. We certainly weren’t trying to leech off of their bandwidth, we just had no choice at that point.
As you can see, we are hosting the trailer on our own now…

I wouldn’t go see it in theatre, but worth it as dvd. Like that Ex-super girlfriend movie.
December 20th, 2007 at 2:14 pm
I don’t think this is a parody; this is a movie showing what happens when you give Joe Average superpowers. When you have super strength it get harder to know just how strong you are.
Looks hysterical anyhow. I for one hope it crosses the pond.

Wow! i can’t wait, if this movie is as funny as it looks, then i may have a new favorite.

Who ever is hating on this movie, is a douche bag.
You can hate the movie, but you can’t hate on Will Smith, all of his good movies out do the bad ones.
Besides, he’s Will Smith, he’s the type of person that can get super stardom, and still do the bullshit humorous rolls.
He can make a movie, but he can’t break it.
If the movie sucks, it sucks, and it wasn’t because of Will Smith.
The only reason I, Robot sucked was because it was a long ass commercial, and I highly doubt that had anything to do with Will Smith. Besides, if it did, good for him. He’s probably still rolling in money from that movie.
Let’s be honest.
If you were talented enough to make it on the big screen, and actually mastered the big screen, wouldn’t you take it down a notch and start playing around with different rolls and movie genres?
Si, I think you would.
I would.

January 4th, 2008 at 4:39 pm
I am a huge fan of Will Smith Ive seen this movie in cinemas it is absaloutly fantastic!
what a film!
i would love to meet will smith he’s my hero!
January 10th, 2008 at 10:42 am
@Terance: Well said. Even crap like “Wild Wild West” is watchable just because Smith is in there, and he brings 110% to every role that he does, regardless of the quality of the movie. If anyone else had been the lead in movies like WWW or I, Robot, they would have been much more massive failures than they actually turned out to be. I, for one, can’t wait to see what Will does with this latest role.
January 10th, 2008 at 3:50 pm
I don’t care what other people think but, i think this movie looks like some thing that i would watch over and over again just like SuperBad.
January 22nd, 2008 at 7:55 pm
Is it just me or does it feel like other than quietly releasing one trailer for the movie, the studio isn’t really giving much push to this project yet almost as if they are waiting to see how they should market it?

Come on guys how many black superheros do we have ahhhhhhh almost none, let him have his day, How many times do some one gets to become a super hero. He probably has dreamed of being a super hero like Superman for years hasn’t almost every child wanted to see their selves with super strength and able to fly. I think it’s going to be funny, and probably at the end like all movies he will get his act together, and be a good super hero, and save the world. If Robert Downey Jr. Can be Iron Man, with his drug self, than Will Smith can be a Super hero also.

The first trailer left me feeling kind of ‘meh’ about the film, but the latest trailer has me sold on going to see this - it was that good.
June 11th, 2008 at 9:47 am
You’ve gotta love the trailer music… “Move B*&ch, get out tha way…”
That pretty much sums up what a Will Smith action flick does to other films at the box office…

“Hancock” looks like a big-budget ripoff of “Bum Man - Hero of the Homeless.” Check out the Bum Man trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vlrNrHetHcM
