First Look: Depp is Sweeney Todd

While we were at Comic Con we got a chance to see the first teaser poster for Tim Burton’s Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. It looks great on my wall. But teaser posters aside, the picture above marks the first official production still from the film. It shows Johnny Depp as Sweeney Todd and Helena Bonham Carter as Mrs. Lovett. Mmmm… Meat pies.

I am absolutely excited about the potential here. Sweeney Todd is a classic and Tim Burton is the right kind of dark-minded director to pull it off. The only problem is that his movies tend to become a little lighthearted. This particular flick needs to be dark, almost borderline disturbing. It will be interesting to see a trailer. But all that aside, it all looks good for now.

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street is due out on January 11, 2008.
